Your home is yours.

What Kept collects, why, and how to erase it. Effective October 14, 2026.

The short version

Kept remembers where your things are. To do that we keep what you tell us — your email, your rooms, your things, and the photos you take of them. We don’t sell it, we don’t show ads, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. You can erase your whole household, photos included, from Settings at any time.

What we collect

Your account. The email address you sign in with, and — only if you choose to set one — a password, which we store as a one-way hash and can’t read back.

Your household. The household name, the names you give for the two of you, and the rooms, kinds, things, notes and search keywords you add.

Photos.Pictures you attach to a thing. They’re stored privately and only shown through short-lived links to people using your household.

What you search for.Typed or spoken questions like “where are the Christmas lights?” are sent to us to run the search. When you speak, your phone or browser turns your voice into text first — on iPhone that’s Apple’s speech recognition, on the device wherever it’s supported. In a web browser, speech recognition is provided by the browser, and some browsers (like Chrome) send the audio to their maker to transcribe it. Either way, we receive the text, not the recording.

Basic technical data. Your IP address, briefly, to limit repeated sign-in attempts, and a sign-in cookie on the web that lasts up to 30 days. The iPhone app keeps your household code in the device Keychain and a few preferences (like your last room) on the phone.

We don’t use advertising identifiers, analytics trackers, or third-party ad networks.

Photos, search and AI

Two features use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic:

  • Auto-fill from photos. When it’s on, the photo you take is sent to Anthropic to suggest a name, kind, notes and search keywords. The iPhone app asks before the first photo, and you can turn it off in Settings → Photos.
  • Asking in a sentence. A longer question is sent to Anthropic to turn it into search terms. Only the question goes — never the list of things in your home.

Anthropic processes these requests on our behalf under its commercial terms, which don’t allow it to train its models on them.

How we use it

  • To run Kept: store your household, find things, print labels.
  • To sign you in, including emailing you sign-in codes.
  • To keep the service secure and stop abuse.
  • To answer you when you write to us.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that run Kept for us, and only what each one needs:

  • Amazon Web Services — hosting, photo storage, and sending sign-in email.
  • MongoDB — the database that holds your household.
  • Anthropic — the AI features described above.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Keeping and erasing

We keep your household for as long as you use Kept. To erase it, open the iPhone app and go to Settings → Delete this household. That permanently deletes your photos, things, rooms, kinds and account record. There’s nothing to recover afterwards.

You can also write to us to have your household deleted, or to ask for a copy of your data.

Children

Kept is made for adults running a home. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top, and for anything significant we’ll tell you by email before it takes effect.
